Happy New Year! I hope your start to 2015 has been nothing less than spectacular.

This is the first time I am writing as a Paper.li Ambassador and not Head of Marketing. If you missed the post, yes, I handed over the keys at the end of 2014 to my colleagues, but my relationship with Paper.li is far from over.

I’ll continue to organise and moderate #BizHeroes chats in 2015 and my parter in fun, Magda, will continue to co-moderate via the @Paper_li account. I couldn’t be more excited about that! If you aren’t familiar with #BizHeroes, our Twitter chat takes place Tuesdays at 2pm ET.

Creating #BizHeroes was as much about giving back to our users who had given so much to us the past four years, as it was about introducing the Paper.li community to great people we’d met over time. But it was also about creating a corner of the Twittersphere where everyone would be welcome and anyone could participate in a conversation, regardless of klout, social influence or social signals.

Simply said, #BizHeroes was created as a place to hangout, be human and have fun.

Before I move on to what’s happening this year, a few word of thanks are in order:

#BizHeroes community, your enthusiasm, dedication but most importantly, very human touch and approach to engaging, listening and making people feel loved, has put #BizHeroes on the map as a great place to be. This chat is a reflection of the wit, style, humor, intelligence, knowledge, caring and down-to-earth goodness in each and every one of you. Your Tweets, posts and WoM are much appreciated.

Additionally, a hearty thanks goes out to all of our 2014 Tweet Guests. Your insights sparked so many great conversations. Your contribution of time and knowledge gave this community many, many hours of great food for thought and sent ripples through the Twitterverse.

And a very big thank you goes to Mack Collier for the endless guidance, tips, strategies and best practices on community, advocacy and Tweet Chats.

Show me the numbers!

I’m not much of a numbers gal, but when I look back at these figures I’m still blown away. Between Feb 11 and Dec 31 #BizHeroes chat rallied 604, 906, 839 impressions! That’s impressive.

Additionally there were:

42,095 tweets

3,104 contributors

15, 838, 924 reach

So what’s in store for 2015? Well, definitely more of the same: more great peeps on the Tweet-Seat, more laughs, more great knowledge share.

This year, we’re kicking off 2015 with community member Madison Jones. Over the past few weeks Madison and I have been tossing ideas back and forth for the chat, then Madison said this:

“I passionately believe that 2015 will be ‘The Year of the Human’. As entrepreneurs, social media enthusiasts, consumers, and individuals, we can cut through the impersonal bombardment and connect as hearts and minds.

How can we make this happen? My mantra has always been, “tell the story, don’t sell the story.” All it takes is thoughtful transparency, a willingness to nurture relationships, and a “sharing is caring” attitude. We do this with our family and friends, so why not extend it to our audience?”

I couldn’t agree more, so our first chat is based on ‘The Year of Human’ and how transparency, caring and honesty in business moves the needle and your bottom line.

Questions for Jan 6th chat:

  1. What does the phrase “Year of the Human” mean to you? How would you make this happen?
  2. In what ways do you try to relate to your customer base on a human level?
  3. What is the best possible way to sabotage your authenticity as a brand or business?
  4. Follows, likes, friends, circles, pins, oh my! How can an individual or brand earn your loyal engagement on social media?
  5. Why is cutting through the noise and connecting with customers on a personal level so important?
  6. What does the phrase “tell a story, don’t sell a story” mean to you in terms of creating content? How can this be accomplished?
  7. Describe a role model that ROCKS at human-oriented social and business. What stands out about them?
  8. Now let’s have some fun. If “The Year of the Human” was a song, what would some of the lyrics be?

Moving forward in 2015:

This year I’ll incorporate The Year of Human in all of our chats as well as topics and ideas from December’s Predictions and Trends 2015 chat. Your participation, ideas, feedback and insights are more than welcome and help shape chats and keep the community thriving and in top form. If you have a chat topic or guest suggestion that you think are a fit, let me know and let’s work on organising together.

Your content contributions are more than welcome too. Feel free to suggest a posts for the blog, like this one from Jessica Roberts or take part is post chat roundup, like this one from Avi Lambert. Thanks to Jose Alemany for the shiny new BizHeroes logo. Love it!

On an ending note, I’ll just say this:

Your time is limited. Every minute of every day can be spent in many, many ways. We are thankful for the time you share with us weekly. On behalf of the entire Paper.li team, thank you.

We wish you a happy, healthy and successful New Year!
